Dr. Buberwa Tibesigwa (btibesigwa@mustnet.ac.tz) is a Lecturer in the Department of Architecture and Art Design of the Mbeya University of Science and Technology with a PhD, Master and Bachelor of Architecture qualifications. He is a practicing registered Architect by ‘Architect and Quantity Surveyors Registration Board’ (AQRB) and a member of Association of Architects Tanzania (AAT). Dr. Tibesigwa has experience in the field of Construction industry in Tanzania for more than 10 years. His research focuses on affordable housing construction technologies, energy efficiency buildings, and efforts to improve urban and rural quality affordable housing.

My name is Gasper Y. Massawe, a male Tanzanian citizen, 32 years of age. My architectural engineering career started in 2005 when I joined Mbeya Institute of Science and Technology where I took a 3 year diploma course in Architecture. Following my graduation in 2008, I joined ArchQuants Services Limited working as an architectural technician for 1 year. During this time, I had the opportunity to put to practise of what I learnt in the diploma course and gained significant exposure to the professional side of the construction industry.  With a goal to continue to grow professionally, I felt it was necessary for me to develop my knowledge further; therefore I was enrolled and successfully graduated with a Bachelor of Technology in Architecture in 2012 from the same Institute. After completing my degree, From February 2013 to November 2015 was employed by an architectural firm ‘Epitome Architect Limited’ as an assistant Architect. I had chance of been involved in a wide range of projects, such as the design and construction management of CCBRT Maternity hospital, refurbishment and redesign of Puma Service Stations, design and management of New Tan-house office tower to name a few. In November 2015 I was employed by an academic institution ‘Mbeya University of Science and Technology’ as Instructor II with the main task of teaching Architecture Diploma Students and assisting to teach Bachelor students. The Institution has a consultancy Bureau where I have participated in supervision of Renovation and remodelling of Musoma technical secondary school, Rehabilitation and remodelling of eighteen (18) folk development Colleges.

Mr. Godfrey Bagumisa Sosthenes is an Architectural Technologist.

Mr. Godfrey was born in Bukoba, Kagera on 30^th June 1982. He is graduated Bachelor Degree of Technology in Architecture from Mbeya Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) in June 2012.

After  receiving his education, Mr.     Godfrey interned with Josiah Kibira University College JoKUCo of Tumaini University Makumira as an Estate Manager from November 2012 – July 2014. His later worked as an Architect at Makambako Town Council, Njombe Region from August 2014 – April 2019.

In 18 April, 2019 Mr. Godfrey was assigned at Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST) as Tutorial Assistance to date.

Japhary J. Shengeza received his Degree of Bachelor of Science in Building Economics from University of Dar Es Salaam 2006, Master of Science in Construction Economics and Management (CEM) from Ardhi University in 2014. He is currently the Assistant Lecturer at MUST. His research interests include Quality Management System (QMS) in construction projects and overall concept of Hands-On-Labour Skills for construction works. He has published two journal papers and participated in consultancy works for construction of medium and large scale projects in buildings and civil works for more than 60 projects under MUST Consultancy Bureau (MCB). Also is a co-founder , Director at  Nyakame Education and Research Center(NERC), which focusing on transforming informal skilled labourer for construction projects to be formal skilled labour in order to improve the workmanship of their output for construction works.

Mr. Juma Julius is an Assistant lecturer in the Department of Architecture at Mbeya University of Science and Technology. He has Master degree of Business Administration in Marketing qualification awarded by University of Iringa, Bachelor degree of Architecture awarded by University of Dar es Salaam under the Constituent College of Land and Architectural Studies (UCLAS) and Diploma in education qualification awarded by Klerruu Teachers College.

Mr. Kassim Ally Choga is an Assistant Lecturer in the department of Architecture and Art Design found in the College of Architecture and ConstructionTechnology at Mbeya University of Science and Technology. He received Advanced Diploma in Architecture at Ardhi Institute of Dar es Salaam in year 1994. Thereafter in year 2009 and 2012 at ARDHI UNIVERSITY he received Postgraduate Diploma in Architecture and Master of Architecture respectively.  

Kassim joined Mbeya Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) department of Architecture in the year 2007. He has served as examination coordinator of Architecture department in year the 2013. He continued with that post in the new established College of Engineering and Technology (CET) department of Settlement, Planning and Designing Technology (SPDT) from year 2014 up to January 2016 when was appointed as Acting Head of Department. From August year 2016 to August 2019 Kassim served as Head of Department Settlement, Planning and Designing Technology (SPDT). Currently, Kassim is Acting as Head of department of Architecture and Art Design found in the College of Architecture and Construction Technology from September 2019. Before that in about a month, from August to September 2019 he was appointed to act as Head of department of Settlement Planning and Designing Technology.

 Kassim experienced in design and construction of buildings. Before joining MIST he has worked with distinguished private offices dealing with building design and construction. Architectural Conservation is his area of specialization.

Nabil Atimamu Abdallah is an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Architecture and Art Design at the College of Architecture and Construction Technology (CoACT). He holds a Master's degree in Architecture from Ardhi University and the Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO).

His expertise lies in computational design, with research interests focusing on Building Information Modeling (BIM), energy-efficient design, and context-sensitive design strategies for the Global South. He teaches Architectural Design Thinking, Simulation Technology, and Building Information Modeling (BIM), and actively participates in consultancy projects, including the Montessori School in Zanzibar.

Previously, he served as an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam and worked as a BIM Architect at C-re-aid from 2017 to 2021, contributing to notable projects such as the Doctors' Housing project in Kilimanjaro. He is a registered member of the Architectural Association of Tanzania (AAT).

 College of Architecture and Construction Technology (CoACT)

The College of Architecture and Construction Technology was officially established on 1st  September, 2019  following the reformation of the University to become a more world-class, modern University of Science and Technology and as well as to become more responsive to the current market demands.

The general objective of the College is to offer education and training in architecture and art design, building science and technology, building construction technology and management, landscape architecture, land planning, Geomatics and quantity surveying so as to develop a critical mass of highly trained manpower who will work in construction industry as Contractors and Consultants (Architectural Technologists, Architects, Landscape Architects, Geomatics, Interior Designers and Quantity Surveyors) as well as policy makers. Furthermore, it intends to equip young generation with the necessary skills in the areas of building performance, sustainable design and building informatics. This necessitates a paradigm shift towards creating built environments that are not only comfortable and healthy for the users but are also sustainable.

In its full-fledged status, the College will have 3 departments namely:

• Architecture and Art Design,
• Construction Management and Technology.
• Land, Spatial Planning and Real Estate Studies

However, in the meantime only two departments  which are; Architecture and Art Design, and Construction Management and Technology have started to operate whereby out of the two, the department of Architecture and Art Design has three(3) academic programmes running which are: (1) Diploma  in Architecture, (2) Bachelor of  Architectural  Technology, and (3) Bachelor of  Landscape Architecture.

The Department of Construction Management and Technology (CMT) is developing new programs as well as offering staff to teach various courses within and outside the College. The College has successfully developed the following programs:  Diploma of  Geomatics, Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning, Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning, Bachelor Degree in Quantity surveying, Master of Science in Construction Management, and Master of Science in Building Performance & Technology which are expected to start running soon after the College acquires enough staff.  Currently the College is developing Curriculum for Diploma in Quantity Surveying and Bachelor of Architecture.

The present College Principal is Dr. Ramadhani,Said Tekka while the Department of Architecture and Art Design is headed by Mr. Justine Katabaro whereas the Department of Construction Management and Technology is headed by Dr.   Dr. Ramadhani,Said Tekka.

The College has 51 young and enthusiastic staff who are determined to see the College grow to the highest level in all its core functions within and outside MUST. Currently, CoACT has Two (2) Senior Lecturer, three (3) Lecturers; Twenty four (24) Assistant Lecturers; Nineteen (19) Tutorial Assistants, two (2) Instructors and three (3) Technician. A total twenty one (21) staff are on study leave out which twelve (12) staff are pursuing PhD and nine (9) is undergoing a Master Degree study.  Presently, the College has student enrolment of about 721.
