The Legal Service Unit is one of the non-academic Directorates in the University established under Rule 78 of the Mbeya University of Science and Technology Charter 2013. It operates under the office of Vice Chancellor (VC). The Unit is headed by Corporate Counsel who is appointed by the Council on the recommendation of the Vice Chancellor.
The Unit is principally responsible for handling Legal Affairs of the University which includes;
- The provision of statutory service for the Council in accordance with the Mbeya University of Science and Technology Charter, by Laws, Regulations, Senate, and other Legal requirements.
- The legal Unit is committed to delivering exceptional Legal service and programs that enhance peace/ harmony and make MUST an employer of choice.
- The Office of Corporate Counsel acts as MUST's internal Law office, providing legal advice, counseling, and service to MUST and representing the University on all legal matters arising within and outside MUST.
- The preparation of the University Council and Senate meetings.
- Writing minutes, preparing resolutions of the meetings, following up the action/implementation of the resolutions of the Council and its committee's meetings.
- Besides, the Unit serves as the liaison between the University and the external legal counsel.
