Program overview

This programme is geared towards producing innovative, creative, hands-on and flexible graduates. As such, students are given opportunity to specialize in the fields of their or market interest through various options provided.

The philosophy of the programme is based on the following principles and assumptions:

  1. To provide foundations of basic principles, competencies and expertise that will give the greatest opportunity for graduate career development.
  2. To facilitate changes in interest, specialties, roles and responsibilities.
  3. To provide in depth analytical understanding of a variety of advanced technology and their associated applications.
  4. To stimulate students’ interest in designing related to architectural applications and motivation in pursuance of further knowledge, research and imaginative thinking.
  5. To produce graduates who are ready to enter the engineering employment and flexibly satisfy the needs of industry.
  6. To satisfy the requirements of the Tanzania Commission for Universities. This is the regulating body for Universities in Tanzania.

It is, therefore, expected that the graduates from this programme will have aspirations to become professional architectural technologist. As such they will likely take roles involving designing, planning as well high level managerial and organizational responsibility and be expected to provide leadership over a broad range of architectural activities. The appropriate skills required for such roles will be acquired from various modules offered during the programme. The programme contains fundamental modules such as mathematics, basic computer programming, entrepreneurship, introduction to management skills and communication skills which provide a viable foundation for further studies and lifelong learning.

The programme is a modular system and will operate under semester structure. This will facilitate a large degree of flexibility for the graduates’ future career development. It also allows inclusion of modules from other departments and development of other routes in related disciplines. It also provides an opportunity to accommodate the desire of students to follow programmes of modules particularly suited to their needs.
